Cross-country climbers - modern pentathletes score personal bests in county race

Three of Hartpury’s modern pentathletes bettered their performances as the second round of the Gloucester cross country league took place over the weekend.

Monty Podger finished three places higher than his last outing in 11th while Kara Hughes and Serin Allin both improved by one place as they finished 11th and second in the Under-17s and Under-20s women’s categories respectively.

In the men’s Under-20s event, James Symons, Oliver Murray and Alex Coveney switched places as they repeated their result from round one as they came home in sixth, seventh and eighth again. This time Symons finished sixth while Murray and Coveney came home in seventh and eighth respectively.

Hartpury’s Modern Pentathlon coach Mat Dewey also got in on the action, finishing 46th in the men’s senior event – two places higher than his first round finish.
