Go Hartpury! Football and rugby teams ready for BUCS Big Wednesday finals

Hartpury students are aiming to complete a major win double on a huge day of sport today – BUCS Big Wednesday.

The senior men’s football first team and the senior men’s rugby second XV will be playing at the University of Nottingham in the finals of their respective BUCS competitions.

Boasting 52 fixtures at four venues across one day of sporting action, BUCS Big Wednesday is the culmination of the team sport league programme with 104 teams competing in 14 sports.

Hartpury’s senior men’s football team will face Cardiff Metropolitan in the Championship final (kick-off 2.30pm), which will be streamed live on the BUCS YouTube and Facebook channels, while the senior men’s rugby second XV take on Durham second XV in the National Vase (kick-off 2.30pm).

Tom Radcliffe, Director of Elite Sport at Hartpury, said: “We’re really proud to have two teams competing in finals on what promises to be fantastic day of sport.

“The two teams’ success so far reflects the technical and tactical ability and hard work they have shown in training sessions and on match days. We hope the teams can perform well and bring back the titles to Hartpury.”

“We’re delighted the football final is among seven sports to be streamed live by BUCS.

“We wish all our players well in the finals on Wednesday – they’re a real credit to Hartpury.”
