Hartpury College A-level student Olivia Jones is thrilled to have won a full scholarship to attend university in the United States – boosting her dreams of becoming a Great Britain athlete.
As a member of the Hartpury Netball Academy for the past two years, Olivia has represented Superleague netball club Severn Stars in the Under-19 National Performance League and been invited to England trials.
She will continue to have access to top-quality sports facilities and highly qualified coaches as a student-athlete on a heptathlon scholarship at Youngstown State University in Ohio.
“I’m so excited to have the opportunity to go to America,” said Olivia, who heads to Youngstown in September.
“Youngstown State University has brilliant facilities and I can't wait to use them to pursue my dream of becoming a GB athlete.
“Hartpury has started me in this goal, with all the help from the strength and conditioning team and psychologists making me more confident in my ability.”
Holly Duerden, Hartpury Netball Academy Manager, said she was proud and excited for Olivia ahead of her new adventure at Youngstown.
“Olivia is a perfect example of an elite student athlete who works hard to balance both her studies and her academy training,” said Holly.
“Since being at Hartpury, she has fully committed to all of our Academy processes and core values and has come out of the other side not only a better athlete but a confident open-minded individual who is now able to chase her dreams of becoming a GB athlete.
“I have been honoured to have her as part of our Netball Academy here at Hartpury and wish her all the best for her future.”
