Four Hartpury graduates have been named in the Great Britain squad for the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Poland.
Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne – a recent winner at Henley Royal Regatta – Alice Bowyer, Zoe Adamson and Sophia Heath are included in the 56-strong GB squad for the showpiece competition in Poznan on 25-29 July.
The quartet came through the Hartpury Rowing programme – a joint initiative between Hartpury, GB Rowing and Gloucester Rowing Club – aimed at identifying and developing the next generation of Olympic rowers.
Tom Radcliffe, Director of Elite Sport at Hartpury, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Alice, Zoe, Charlotte and Sophia’s continuing commitment and talent has been recognised with their inclusion in the GB squad.
“We’ll be following the action in Poland closely and willing them all on in the hope they can bring home a medal – hopefully gold!
“Special mention goes to Sophia, who has the special honour of being the first ‘homegrown’ Gloucester Hartpury alumni to achieve World Championship selection.
“Her superb progress, along with that of Alice, Zoe and Charlotte, is further evidence of the merits of the programme that we’re running here at Hartpury alongside GB Rowing and Gloucester Rowing Club.”
Five British crews reached the podium at the 2017 championships, with golds for the men’s double sculls and the women’s quad.
