Hartpury University has been named as the number one university in England in the ‘Academic Support’ category, according to results from the National Student Survey (NSS) 2023 - the largest survey of its kind in the world.

Among fellow English institutions, Hartpury is a top 10 university for Teaching, Learning Opportunities, and Assessment and Feedback, and the number one university in the ‘How good are teaching staff at explaining things?’ category. Hartpury is also a top 10 university in England for Organisation and Management.

Regionally, Hartpury University is number one in Gloucestershire for Teaching, Assessment and Feedback, Organisation and Management, and Student Voice, as well as number one in the South West for Learning Opportunities.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is aimed mainly at final-year undergraduate students, gathering opinions and feedback about their time in higher education. The survey asks students questions about a range of factors including the teaching on their course, assessment and feedback, and how well courses are organised. The results are collated from honest feedback about what it has been like to study their course at their institution. The results help to inform prospective students’ choices, as well as providing data that can be used by universities to improve the student experience.

Rosie Scott-Ward, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Hartpury University said: “I’m delighted that the hard work of our staff has been recognised by students in the latest NSS results. To be named as the number one university in England for Academic Support and number one university in Gloucestershire for Teaching, are accolades I am particularly proud of, given our commitment to ensuring students have access to the highest quality education in an environment where they feel supported.

“Feedback from our students is vital to us and immensely valuable in order for us to continue to invest and improve the Hartpury experience. I’d like to thank everyone that took part in this year’s survey.”

Earlier in the year, Hartpury University was named in the top 10% of UK universities and best in the South West for graduate employability, with 97% of graduates in employment, further study or other purposeful activity. Hartpury University also ranks 1st in the South West and 6th in the UK for Teaching Quality, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

Alongside the highest quality teaching, Hartpury University continues to invest in its facilities to improve the wider student experience. A new £12.75m University Learning Hub will open its doors in the 2023/24 academic year, the first new building intended exclusively for use by higher education students.

The results and standings in this news release are based on the NSS 2023 results among English Universities.
