BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy degree gains CIMSPA professional endorsement

Hartpury University’s BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy degree has become the first in the sector to fully map four professional standards from the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) into its undergraduate curriculum.

The endorsement, which complements Hartpury University’s recently published strong National Student Survey (NSS) results, means students will graduate with the potential to achieve wider professional recognition in addition to accreditation from the Society of Sports Therapists.

Under the newly endorsed programme, students will have the opportunity to meet the occupational standards of Health Navigator and Personal Trainer, while also specialising in Working with Women and Girls and Working with People with Long-Term Conditions. Once CIMSPA’s Professional Status framework launches this summer, graduates could also be eligible for Advanced Practitioner status – a major boost to their employability and industry readiness.

Claire Farquharson, Programme Manager for Sports Therapy at Hartpury University, and her team worked extensively to evidence how the degree meets CIMSPA’s standards, ensuring that Hartpury students gain industry-specific skills aligned to the evolving needs of the sector.

A CIMSPA representative praised the achievement: “Hartpury University has once again demonstrated their commitment to providing their students with an industry-specific curriculum with their latest course endorsement. Claire Farquharson and the team have worked tirelessly to evidence how their BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy degree meets four of the sport and physical activity sector’s professional standards.

“Once the CIMSPA Professional Status framework is launched this summer, graduates of this degree will have the potential to receive an Advanced Practitioner status because of their hard work. This is the first time that this suite of professional standards has been mapped into a Sports Therapy degree, and we look forward to continuing to support Hartpury University with developing the sector’s future workforce.”

Hartpury University also ranks 4th in the UK for Sports Science, further reinforces the institution’s reputation as a leading provider of higher education in the subject area.
