Hartpury University and Hartpury College is proud to announce that Rosie Scott-Ward, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Hartpury University, has been admitted as a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.
The Worshipful Company of Saddlers, one of the City of London’s ancient Livery Companies, has supported saddlery, equestrianism, and related trades since its Royal Charter in 1395. Becoming a Freeman is a prestigious honour awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to advancing the saddlery and equestrian industries.
Rosie, alongside a dedicated team of Hartpury staff, has been instrumental in driving Hartpury University’s reputation as one of the leading equestrian education providers, overseeing growth in academic provision, research, and industry partnerships. In recent times, Hartpury has expanded its equine research portfolio, developed world-class equestrian facilities, and strengthened ties with governing bodies and industry leaders to create unparalleled opportunities for students.
A key element of Hartpury University’s work in the sector is its pioneering research into saddle fit and its impact on horse welfare and performance. This research—conducted in collaboration with industry bodies and master saddlers—has informed best practice across the equestrian world, ensuring saddlery professionals have access to the latest evidence-based knowledge. Hartpury University’s findings have been shared internationally, influencing both manufacturing and fitting standards to improve comfort, performance, welfare and wellbeing for horses and riders alike.
“It’s an incredible honour to be admitted as a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers,” said Rosie Scott-Ward. “The Saddlers’ Company plays such an important role in preserving tradition while championing innovation in the equestrian world. I’m proud to continue strengthening the connection between education and industry, ensuring the next generation of equestrian professionals can thrive.”
This recognition further highlights Hartpury’s strong links with the Saddlers’ Company, which has long supported students through scholarships, awards, and engagement with the equine curriculum.
