Hartpury named Specialist University of the Year 2026 by The Times Good University Guide

Hartpury University has been named Specialist University of the Year 2026 in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide – a major national recognition of its exceptional teaching, facilities, and student experience.

The award comes at a pivotal moment for the higher education sector, as universities across the UK and internationally face increasingly competitive student recruitment markets. This accolade, awarded following rigorous editorial consideration, shines a spotlight on Hartpury University’s continued growth and distinctive strengths as one of the UK’s leading specialist providers.

Specialist institutions such as Hartpury University play a crucial role in the success of UK higher education, supporting key government priorities and delivering the skills and expertise that drive innovation, industry, and regional growth.

Winners of the Specialist University of the Year award are selected using a combination of league table performance, institutional developments over the past year, and the editorial judgement of the Guide’s expert panel.

While Hartpury University’s positive metrics and rise within the rankings were a factor (Hartpury has climbed 15 places in the overall league table to 101st) the award was not solely data driven. Instead, it reflected the university’s clear progress and strong vision for the future.

Professor Andy Collop, Vice-Chancellor of Hartpury University, added: “Being named Specialist University of the Year 2026 is an extraordinary achievement for our whole community. The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide is one of the most respected and influential publications in higher education, so to be recognised in this way is particularly meaningful. It recognises not just where we are now, but also the exciting direction in which we are heading. I am incredibly proud of our staff, governors, students, alumni and partners who have all played a role in this success.”

Rosie Scott-Ward, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Hartpury University, said: “This award is a testament to the whole Hartpury community (including our staff and students), whose talent, ambition and commitment underpin everything we achieve at Hartpury University. For prospective students and their families, The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide is a trusted source when making life-changing decisions about where to study. It reinforces the distinct advantages of studying here, where world-class facilities and specialist expertise combine to create a truly unparalleled student experience. Going to university is an investment – not just financially, but also personally, and this award demonstrates the value of specialist universities in providing a real return on that investment.”

This honour underscores Hartpury University’s reputation as a leading destination for specialist study, with a growing international profile and a commitment to shaping the future of industries spanning sport, agriculture, equine, animal, veterinary nursing, and business management.
