Hartpury praised for fostering a safer and healthier campus environment

Hartpury University and Hartpury Students’ Union are proud to announce the achievement of the SOS-UK Drug and Alcohol Impact accreditation. ​ This milestone reflects a two-year commitment to fostering a safer, healthier campus environment by promoting responsible alcohol consumption and adopting a harm reduction approach to drug use. ​

The programme, led by Hartpury Students’ Union in collaboration with staff and external partners, focused on understanding student needs and designing tailored initiatives to educate, support, and reduce harm. ​ Hartpury exceeded the required score for accreditation, achieving an impressive 275 points. ​

Key Achievements:

  • Introduction of alcohol-free accommodation for 2024/2025, with plans to expand in 2025/2026. ​
  • Adoption of a harm reduction approach in the updated Drug and Alcohol Policy. ​
  • Launch of wellbeing drop-ins for drug and alcohol-related issues. ​
  • Creation of events and activities to raise awareness and promote student support services. ​
  • Collaboration with local organizations to enhance student safety in Gloucester. ​

SOS-UK commended Hartpury for its whole-institution approach, student involvement, and commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment for all students. ​

Sophie Savage, SU Manager, expressed her gratitude to everyone involved, stating: “This achievement highlights the power of collaboration between the SU, staff, and students in creating meaningful change.” ​

Lesley Worsfold, Chief People Officer at Hartpury University and Hartpury College, added: “This programme has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage in impactful work, and we’re proud of the positive outcomes it has delivered.” ​
