T Levels are one of the most exciting developments in education in recent years, and at Hartpury College we’re proud to be embracing these exciting qualifications. Designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, T Levels give students the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to step into meaningful careers.
We’re already seeing great success in the results of our first year T Level Agriculture students, and this year we’re delighted to have introduced our first Animal T Levels this September. These pathways reflect Hartpury College’s commitment to tackling skills shortages in land-based industries and preparing students for the future.
Hartpury College now offer T Levels in the following areas:
Tackling the skills gap head-on
The UK is facing well-documented skills shortages. At Hartpury College, we’re addressing these challenges directly. Our students learn from industry experts, train in state-of-the-art facilities, and spend substantial time on industry placements, building the experience and confidence to thrive after their studies.
Earlier this year, our Agriculture T Level students were featured on the BBC’s Countryfile programme, showcasing their practical skills during lambing season. It was a proud moment that highlighted how T Levels equip students with real, in-demand expertise while raising awareness of the vital role they play in our rural industries.
Changing perceptions: the truth about T Levels
Despite their growing popularity, some misconceptions remain around T Levels.
• Myth 1: “T Levels are only for people who don’t want to go to university.”
Fact: Full T Levels carry UCAS points equivalent to three A Levels. These can open doors to university, higher apprenticeships, or skilled employment.
• Myth 2: “T Levels are only for hands-on learners.”
Fact: While practical experience is key, T Levels also develop strong academic knowledge and critical thinking skills, perfect preparation for further study or management roles in the future.
• Myth 3: “T Levels are not widely recognised by employers.”
Fact: Awareness is growing fast. Employers value the extensive industry placements built into T Levels, giving them early access to talented, work-ready young people with the latest skills and knowledge.
• Myth 4: “T Levels are limited to certain industries.”
Fact: T Levels are expanding every year across key sectors and at Hartpury, we’re proud to deliver them in Agriculture and Animal, both important areas for the UK’s environmental and economic sustainability.
• Myth 5: “They don’t offer flexibility for different career paths.”
Fact: Far from it. The combination of technical knowledge, professional experience, and transferable skills means T Level students can adapt easily to a variety of roles and industries as their careers evolve.
National recognition for a qualification with huge potential
Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, recently reinforced the importance of T Levels in the national skills agenda: “T Levels have the potential to be a significant force for good in equipping young people with everything they need for their burgeoning careers. Government’s ambitions for the UK’s economic growth and success are dependent upon the skills of this country’s workforce.”
At Hartpury College, we see that potential every day. By aligning our T Levels with local and national employment needs, we’re ensuring students are ready to step into critical roles across farming, animal management and science, and environmental management. In the most recent Ofsted inspection, Hartpury College retained its Outstanding rating but was also commended for making a ‘strong contribution’ to meeting skills needs, the highest grade possible.
Real experience. Real skills. Real change.
T Levels are designed for students who want to make a difference.
With our proven track record of developing skilled, motivated graduates and our strong industry partnerships, Hartpury College is proud to be helping shape the future workforce and closing the skills gap for the industries that keep our countryside thriving.
