Three Pigtech Delegates At Table

PigTech workshop highlights the role of technology in pig farming

Hartpury University’s Digital Innovation Farm hosted the PigTech Workshop on 16 January, bringing together key stakeholders from across the pig farming industry to explore the transformative role of technology in enhancing productivity, profitability, and animal welfare.

The event, held in collaboration with Queen's University Belfast, welcomed delegates representing major industry players, veterinary experts, technology innovators, and welfare organisations, including the RSPCA, Pig Improvement Company (PIC), Pilgrim’s Europe, MSD Animal Health, Garth Pig Practice Ltd, and Farmex Ltd. The presence of commercial leaders, policy influencers, and advisory bodies enabled discussion across decision-making, regulation, and on-farm practice.

The workshop featured lively discussions on the technologies currently shaping industry practices, their contributions to the sector, and the innovations participants wish to see in the future. These discussions will help inform future participatory research aimed at advancing the pig farming industry.

The event considered the potential role of technology in driving progress across the sector, from improving productivity and profitability to enhancing animal welfare standards. The PigTech Workshop initiated a collaborative process that will continue through work with farmers and industry stakeholders to address challenges and opportunities in the sector.

Hartpury University and Queen's University Belfast extend their gratitude to all participants for their contributions to this successful event.
