Hartpury Golf Academy celebrates major win and strong start to FE season

Hartpury University and Hartpury College’s Golf Academy is celebrating success on multiple fronts after a major individual victory for a postgraduate student and a dominant start to the Further Education season for Hartpury College golfers.

Robb claims Exeter Trophy in dramatic play-off

Hartpury master’s student Charlie Robb secured an impressive victory at the prestigious Exeter Trophy, held over three rounds at Trevose Golf Club.

Robb finished the 54-hole tournament at five under par, eventually winning in a dramatic play-off after an unfortunate double bogey on the final hole forced extra time. Showing strong composure, he refocused quickly and went on to secure the title.

A student on Hartpury’s MSc Sports Management, Robb has become one of the leading performers in university golf. He has already recorded multiple victories on the BUCS Tour and continues to build an impressive competitive record while representing Hartpury across the UK and Europe.

Robb has also competed in several international study tour events in Portugal, Spain and Ireland, consistently finishing inside the top 10. His success follows closely in the footsteps of his friend and Hartpury golfer alum Eliot Baker, highlighting the strength of the institution’s high-performance golf pathway.

Hartpury fielded six players at Trevose, including a strong contingent of first-year students, underlining the depth of talent within the programme and providing optimism for the future.

Hartpury College dominating FE golf South region

Meanwhile, Hartpury College golfers have made a superb start to the further education season, currently dominating the South Region Order of Merit.

Both the Hartpury first and second teams currently sit at the top of the team standings and are strongly placed to qualify for the national finals in May, which will be held at Sherwood Forest Golf Club.

Individually, Hartpury players occupy four of the top six positions in the regional Order of Merit standings:

-       Felix Chippendale (1st)

-       Summer Carash (2nd)

-       Jack Dirkin (4th)

-       Josh Murphy (6th)

All of the four students above are studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport (Golf).

The latest event in the six-tournament series took place at Cleeve Hill Golf Club, where Chippendale claimed victory with an impressive three-under-par round, played in bright sunshine.

The regional season continues with the next event at Kingstown Golf Club, before concluding on 25 March at Cumberwell Park Golf Club.

With several first-year students already making a significant impact, Hartpury’s young golfers are expected to be strong contenders when the national finals arrive later this year.
