Four alumni hit 100 games milestone for Hartpury RFC

Four Hartpury alumni have achieved the milestone of 100 games for Hartpury RFC, highlighting the strength of the institution’s rugby pathway and its ability to support student-athletes both academically and on the field.

Hartpury RFC, currently ranked among the top 24 clubs in England, has been instrumental in developing many talented players studying at Hartpury University and Hartpury College. Competing in National League rugby, the club provides a high-performance environment where players can gain valuable experience alongside their studies.

Those to have achieved 100 games for the club are:

·       Will Crane - BSc (Hons) Sports Business Management graduate

·       Robbie Smith – Former National Extended Diploma Sport (Rugby) student

·       Harry Short - BSc (Hons) Sports Business Management graduate

·       Alex Gibson - BSc (Hons) Sports Business Management graduate

Mark Cornwell, Head Coach of Hartpury RFC said: “To have four players reach 100 games is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to their dedication, resilience and consistency over a sustained period. What makes it even more special is that they’ve combined that commitment on the pitch with their academic studies at Hartpury.

“Our programme is built to support players in both areas, and these milestones show what’s possible when talent is matched with the right environment and opportunities to develop.”

Since its formation in 2004, Hartpury RFC has risen rapidly through the English rugby league system, providing Hartpury recruits with the opportunity to experience senior National League rugby as part of their progression.

This latest news demonstrates the effectiveness of Hartpury’s integrated approach, enabling players to balance academic study with elite rugby development. This, in part, contributed to Hartpury being named Specialist University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, recognising its excellence in combining academic achievement with elite sport.
