Hartpury rowers secure gold medals and multiple wins at Metropolitan and Hereford Regattas

Hartpury’s rowing programme enjoyed another successful weekend of competition, securing multiple gold medals and race wins across Metropolitan Regatta and Hereford Regatta as athletes continue preparations for a busy summer of racing.

Hartpury’s top athletes travelled to Metropolitan Regatta, one of the UK’s leading rowing events, where the College fielded its leading boys’ and girls’ quadruple sculls crews for the first time this season. Having spent the early part of the summer racing programme competing in singles and doubles, the event provided an important opportunity to assess performance in larger boats ahead of major competitions, including Henley Royal Regatta.

The standout result came from Hartpury’s girls’ quadruple sculls crew, who claimed gold in the J18 4x- category. The crew of Daniela Raguckaite, Grace Janes, Rosemary McGregor and Tilly Hudson-Hulls, all studying A-levels at Hartpury, produced an impressive performance to secure victory against strong national opposition, including crews that medalled at the National Schools’ Regatta.

There was further success for Hartpury at Metropolitan Regatta as A-level student Max Fullman claimed gold in the Under-23 Single Sculls event, demonstrating the strength and depth of the College’s rowing programme across both crew and individual disciplines.

The boys’ quadruple sculls crew of fellow A-level students Max Fullman, Alex Judd, Dan Page and Gethin Balkwill also delivered a strong performance, finishing fourth in a highly competitive J18 4x- field.

Meanwhile, a larger group of Hartpury College and Pathway athletes competed at Hereford Regatta. While providing an excellent opportunity for race experience and development, the event also delivered significant success on the water, with Hartpury crews recording 14 race victories and a further three second-place finishes across the weekend.

Tom Jenkinson, Lead Coach at the Hartpury Rowing Academy said: “We’re really pleased with how the athletes performed across both regattas. Metropolitan was an important benchmark for our top crews as we start to focus on racing in quads ahead of the major events later this summer. To see the girls secure a gold medal against such strong competition and for Max to win the Under-23 single was particularly encouraging.

“At Hereford, it was fantastic to see so many athletes racing well, gaining experience and enjoying success. The performances across the programme reflect the hard work the athletes have put in throughout the year, and we’re excited to see what the rest of the season holds.”

The results continue a strong start to the summer season for Hartpury’s rowers, with athletes building momentum and confidence ahead of the next phase of competition as they target success at some of the country’s most prestigious regattas.

Hartpury’s Rowing Academy supports student-athletes in balancing academic study with high-performance sport, providing opportunities to compete at regional, national and international level alongside their education.
