Career Overview

My route into lecturing has been circuitous. I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London, in 1996 with a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Studies. This was followed by 16 years in the Royal Air Force, working with national and international agencies supporting operations in the UK and abroad as an Aerospace Battle Manager; with regular involvement in training and developing personnel. Upon leaving the RAF I followed my passion for horses to qualify as an Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Trainer, coaching and supporting horse owners to understand their animals, and gained my MSc, in Equine Behaviour, Performance and Training through University Centre Sparsholt. Staying at Sparsholt, I joined the Additional Learning Support team, providing individualised support to students on equine, sport, public service and animal pathways, also undertaking a PhD investigating human compassion towards animals. I joined the team at Hartpury as a Junior Lecturer, HE Equine, in 2023.
