Career Overview

I am a Registered Equine Veterinary Nurse with over a decade of experience working in the veterinary industry. I have a keen interest in surgical nursing and prior to joining the Hartpury Veterinary Nursing Team, in 2014, I was the Senior Equine Theatre Nurse at a mixed practice.


I have an MA in Education and for my dissertation completed a qualitative research project focusing on the factors that motivate student veterinary nurses to make academic and career based decisions.

Teaching and supervision

  • I am the Programme Manager for the BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing and BSc (Hons) Equine Veterinary Nursing programmes.
  • I teach across a range of veterinary nursing modules, subjects including, surgical nursing, pharmacy management and professional veterinary nursing.
  • I also supervise undergraduate dissertations.

Research interests

  • I presented my research titled 'Final year student veterinary nurse's future career plans: values, beliefs and anxieties' at the RCVS MMI Symposium in October 2023.
  • My article titled 'A Qualitative Study of Why Students Choose to Study Veterinary Nursing' in the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education in 2023.
  • My other publications include, articles in The Veterinary Nurse titled, 'Don't forget the foal: The nursing requirements of foals when the mare is the primary patient' and 'Equine Neonates and Infection Control'.
  • At the, 2015, British Veterinary Nursing Association Congress I delivered a lecture on Common Traumatic Injuries of the Competition Horse.
  • I am currently researching student veterinary nurse professional identity.
