A Hartpury College athlete has celebrated national success after competing at the AoC National Championships, held at the University of Nottingham, representing both Hartpury and the West Midlands region.
Amber Kinghorn, a first-year student studying A-levels in Biology, Maths and PE, delivered an impressive performance across a demanding weekend of endurance competition.
Amber competed in the Endurance Run event, which featured both a mixed relay race and an individual multi-terrain race.
The mixed relay, held on Friday, saw teams of six athletes, three male and three female, each complete a 1km loop, requiring speed, teamwork and tactical pacing.
On Saturday, Amber took on the individual 5km multi-terrain race, competing against top college athletes from across the country.
Representing the West Midlands, Amber was part of a strong regional squad consisting of 12 male and 12 female athletes. Team results were determined by the top six individual times, with Amber finishing an outstanding 4th place overall among her team.
Her performance contributed to a gold medal victory for the West Midlands women’s team, securing the top podium position at the national championships.
Lee Douglas, Athlete Performance Academy Manager at Hartpury University and Hartpury College said: “Amber’s performance at the AoC National Championships is a fantastic achievement and a real reflection of her dedication and work ethic. At Hartpury, we’re committed to supporting student-athletes to reach their full potential, both academically and in their sport. Amber has embraced everything the Sports Academy offers, and to see her contribute to a gold medal-winning team on the national stage is something we’re incredibly proud of. She’s also part of our Netball Academy at Hartpury as well as a member of Gloucester Swimming Club, so is an all-round athlete.”
Athletes have access to a wide range of performance services, including strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, sports nutrition and sports psychology. With experienced staff who have competed or worked at professional levels, alongside tailored timetables and regular competitive opportunities, Hartpury supports students to achieve both their sporting ambitions and long-term career goals.
As a first-year student, her achievement on the national stage marks an exciting start to her journey, with strong potential for future success in athletics.
