Hartpury University and Hartpury College welcomed riders from across the UK for an inspiring and inclusive Cool Ridings training day, bringing together a diverse community for a powerful experience of learning, development and connection.
Aligned with the Cool Ridings mission, the event championed diversity and accessibility within equestrian sport, creating a supportive environment where riders from all backgrounds could come together to grow and thrive. The day featured ridden sessions led by highly respected five-star event rider and British Eventing coach Jo Rimmer, who delivered high-quality, tailored coaching in a welcoming and encouraging setting.
Riders benefited from expert guidance designed to build confidence, refine technique and strengthen partnerships with their horses. Feedback from attendees highlighted the impact of the experience, with one rider sharing: “I’ve never felt so comfortable and supported in a training environment, everyone was so encouraging and the standard of coaching was incredible.”
Another participant added: “Jo’s teaching completely changed how I think about my riding. I’ve come away with so much more confidence.”
The day also included rider-specific fitness sessions led by Hartpury University student Ifa Simmonds, who brought specialist knowledge in strength and stability alongside an infectious positive energy. Ifa moved from the US to the UK to study a BSc (Hons) Equestrian Sports Science degree. Read his story here.
Beyond the arena, the event fostered meaningful conversations around representation and opportunity within equestrian sport, reinforcing the importance of creating accessible pathways for underrepresented riders. One Cool Ridings member commented: “It felt like more than just a training day. Being around people who understand your journey is so powerful.”
Cool Ridings Founder Lydia Heywood said: “This is exactly why Cool Ridings exists, and I am committed to creating spaces where riders feel confident and supported.
“Cool Ridings was also proud to welcome Jade Faulkner, Charles Owen Head of Product & Brand Development, whose presence highlighted the importance of rider safety and accessibility. Helmet fitting was a key moment for many attendees, particularly as riders from Afro Caribbean backgrounds have historically faced challenges in finding helmets that fit correctly without pressure points.”
Cool Ridings extended sincere thanks to Hartpury University and Hartpury College for their world-class facilities and ongoing commitment to supporting inclusive initiatives within the sport.
Phillip Cheetham, Equine Director at Hartpury University and Hartpury College said: “Hosting events like this is central to Hartpury’s commitment to widening access and creating meaningful opportunities within equestrian sport. By providing world-class facilities and an inclusive environment, we’re proud to support initiatives that help riders from all backgrounds develop, connect and succeed.”
Following the success of this event, Cool Ridings will return to Hartpury Equine in June, continuing to build on this growing partnership and deliver empowering experiences for underrepresented riders. The day marks another significant milestone for the organisation as it expands its impact, creating spaces where riders feel seen, supported and celebrated.
Riders left feeling motivated, inspired and better equipped to progress in their equestrian journeys, underlining the importance of initiatives that prioritise inclusion, confidence and community within the sport.
