Hartpury University has become the founding Educational Institution to join the Animal Focused Alliance (AFA), strengthening its commitment to welfare-led education, industry collaboration and preparing the next generation of animal professionals.
The partnership brings together two organisations with a shared ambition to promote the highest standards of animal welfare and support the development of skilled, knowledgeable professionals working across the pet animal sector.
The Animal Focused Alliance is a welfare-driven trade association supporting pet professionals and organisations through welfare-focused standards, expert guidance, industry insight and regulatory support. Its members represent a wide range of animal-focused businesses, including dog groomers, trainers, behaviourists, pet care providers and animal-assisted service organisations.
As a member, Hartpury will benefit from enhanced links with the pet animal industry, access to specialist resources, and opportunities to further enrich the learning experience for students across its animal programmes, in preparation for industryThe membership will provide learners with access to current industry knowledge, welfare guidance and professional standards, helping ensure Hartpury’s curriculum remains aligned with the evolving needs of the animal sector. Students will benefit from expert-led sessions, industry updates, employability opportunities and closer connections with professionals working in areas including animal care, grooming, behaviour, training and welfare.
The partnership will particularly support students studying programmes including Dog Grooming, Canine Behaviour and Training, Animal Behaviour and Welfare, Human-Animal Interaction, and animal-focused further education provision, providing additional opportunities to explore legislation, professional practice and evidence-based welfare approaches. Hartpury students will gain access to a graduate discount to Alliance membership, should they set up their own business after completing their qualification.
Hartpury staff will also benefit from access to regulatory updates, professional development opportunities and specialist guidance, supporting the continued delivery of high-quality, industry-relevant education.
The partnership reflects Hartpury’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare and its ambition to work collaboratively with leading organisations to support the future of the sector.
