Explore the principles and practices of outdoor adventure through classroom sessions and practical activities on land and water. These practical days will give you the chance to work towards National Governing Body awards. You’ll have access to outdoor adventure centres in the local area – applying your classroom learning in real-life settings – and you'll complete a period of work experience, with the opportunity to work with outdoor providers in the UK.

Course Overview

If you want a career in the outdoor and adventure industry then this Diploma will give you an introduction to the principles and practices of Outdoor Adventure, complemented by industry-recognised qualifications and practical experience of the industry.

The course provides a variety of practical activities including:

  • A water sports day where you’ll work towards National Governing Body awards in either sailing or canoeing.
  • Climbing or hillwalking, again working towards vocational qualifications.

You will have access to the excellent outdoor adventure centres based within the local area, enabling you to immediately put into practice what you have learnt in the classroom.

2 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and either Mathematics or a Science.

You will develop practical skills in a range of outdoor activities including water based sports and land based sports such as:

  • Sailing
  • Canoeing
  • Climbing
  • Hill-walking

Your course will include units such as:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Exercise Programmes
  • Leading Sports Activities
  • Sports Injuries

You will have opportunities to undertake National Governing Body awards and industry-recognised qualifications to complement your CV.

A work placement during your course will enable you to:

  • Acquire first-hand experience of the industry
  • Explore a career that is of interest to you
  • Acquire valuable contacts and often secure placement jobs with their placement provider

You will also benefit from industry speakers in lecturers and field trips to strengthen your learning.

On successful completion of this course, you could be eligible to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Outdoor Adventure, followed by employment or university-level study.
