I always wanted to be a vet but I wasn’t aware of the alternative career paths. I was offered a session in canine hydrotherapy as part of a study week in my first year and volunteered at the Cotswold Dog Spa while studying for my degree. I secured a job there after graduation.
It's amazing that Hartpury offers the opportunity to work with different species as part of the degree. As part of the course, I did a 40-hour internship in the Animal Collection. I’ve been getting hands on with exotic animals – meerkats, skunks and prairie dogs.
I came to an open day and the campus was beautiful, seeing the various facilities was really exciting, particularly the therapy centre - it felt like there were many opportunities.
Our graduates go on to some incredible careers, with many running their own successful businesses too.

Being here allowed me to combine university study and top-level riding, letting me continue my development as a top level rider and gain a valuable education.
I completed my PhD in rider fitness and the physiological demands eventing places on the rider. With the results from my research I developed ‘EventFit’, a 30-day, 40-exercise challenge that doesn’t require any equipment and is available worldwide with an online forum for questions, support and encouragement.
Having my own horse at Hartpury meant I could combine my studies with my love of horses and competing, as well as benefiting from the use of Hartpury’s world-class facilities.
