Studying for a degree at Hartpury is a great investment for your future. It’s really important for you to have a plan on how you'll finance your studies.

You’ll also need to budget to ensure you have sufficient money for living costs including transport, accommodation, meals and other expenses while you study.

Cost of living

We understand that the cost of living is a key consideration when deciding whether or not to pursue university study and everything that comes with it. At Hartpury University, we aim to support our students wherever possible.

Utility bills and contents insurance at no extra charge

There are a range of options available to suit all budgets and requirements, both on and off campus, all of which include contents insurance at no extra charge. All utilities (heating, lighting, water supply) are also included within Hartpury-managed accommodation on and off campus, as well as TV Licence fees within communal areas on campus. There are also opportunities to fund your studies as a Residential Support Assistant, a role that includes free accommodation.

Free campus car parking available and subsidised buses

Free campus car parking is available with a permit, as well as a subsidised bus service between our campus and the City of Gloucester. You can also make use of nationwide initiatives. The 16-25 Railcard is available to 16 to 25 year olds, or mature students — 26 years or older — in full-time study. National Express also offers a Young Persons Coachcard (16-26 and/or full-time students) and discounts through UNiDAYS and TOTUM.

Warm and welcoming communal facilities open 24/7

There are plenty of locations on campus that are open 24/7 and provide warm environments in which to study and socialise, including our Study Lounge and Learning Centre, where you can also charge your devices for free. Graze and Legends, which broadcasts Sky TV, are also available. Our sports and equine academies provide shower facilities free of charge to all students.

Support with food, drink and essentials

Affordable food and drink options are always available in our campus catering outlets — including our new Graze facility, and a loyalty points scheme is available to students who use Upay via their ID cards. Our facilities also have microwaves and hot water for tea/coffee available at no charge. We also offer free sanitary products to all students. UNiDAYS and TOTUM provide student discounts at high street chains for food and essentials, among other offers.

Estimated costs of living

Accommodation

Hartpury campus halls ranges from £5,889 to £7,995 per academic year (39 weeks) and includes water, electricity, heating and WiFi bills.¹

Hartpury Gloucester accommodation (Blackfriars) has a range of options available including shared and private on-bedroom apartments. Prices vary from £182 to £235 per week.¹

Off-site private one-bed apartments are likely to be charged around £475 - £625 per calendar month. You'll likely need to pay a one-month deposit up front and letting agent fee. Some will require full six months' rent in advance. This doesn't include additional bills such as utilities. For information on Student Digs, visit their dedicated website.

Accommodation

Meals at Hartpury

£55 per week for purchasing cooked meals. £30 for self-catering based on three meals a day. For £32.50 a week, you can also have five fresh and nutritious meals from any of our food outlets around campus.

Personal care products

We estimate around £15 each week, however, this is dependent on individual needs and product preferences.

Eating and drinking

Car parking pass, bus tickets and taxis

A car parking permit allowing you to park on campus during term time: £100 per academic year for students living on campus; from £60 for non-resident students.

Buses run regularly from campus to Gloucester.

£12-£20 dependent on taxi service, plus time of travel.

Mobile phone contract, sim card only

£15-£20 per month, based on a 12-month contract.

You might need, or choose, to purchase specific Hartpury-branded kit for your course (we let you know about any specific kit you need): £25-£50, depending on your purchase.

Hartpury gym membership

£120 per academic year.

Academy membership and Students' Union clubs and societies

£20 - £300 depending on the club and academy. Academy membership includes gym.

Job opportunities

Earn while you learn

There are plenty of jobs available at Hartpury and the surrounding areas. Some of our courses include the option for students to take an integrated placement year, enabling you to gain invaluable work experience and skills, as well as the potential to earn some money.

Our Students' Union also advertise lots of vacancies, some of them right on campus. Our Student Ambassador scheme means you could be helping at recruitment events such as open days or careers fairs, sharing your expertise and experience with potential students. There are also opportunities available as part of our Graze and Legends teams, assisting in the Equine Academy, or working as a student warden.

Our Innovation, Careers and Enterprise team also advertise part-time job opportunities.

Always look out for shops that offer a student discount.

Up to 20% off fees for Hartpury University graduates

Hartpury University graduates may be eligible to receive up to 20% discount for studying a master's course with us, and up to 10% from professional course fees (2024/25).
