Faces of agriculture

Joe Goodenough

I am currently in my third year at Hartpury University studying a BSc Hons Agriculture Degree. I grew up in a small village, outside of Reading. My family run a 500-cow organic dairy farm, milking Jersey X Holsteins for Muller.

I chose to study Agriculture as it has the best blend of hands-on and classroom-based studies and allowed me to develop my academic skill while also teaching me practical skills to use on Home Farm.  I chose Hartpury as it has such a green open campus, and offered the atmosphere of a large university but still gave me a personal feel. It is lovely knowing that your lecturers communicate with their students and recognise their achievements. My lecturers here have helped me to reach my goals by always being supportive and helping me to enhance my skills.

As I am now in my third year, I have begun planning what to do next. In the future I aim to work in agricultural policy, to get into this I am planning to do a PhD as Hartpury has also made me realise that research is crucial to the sustainability of the industry.
