Tilly Abbott

Growing up in rural Suffolk I was always exposed to the farming community and had a passion for animals, but I fell into the agriculture sector. Neither of my parents have agricultural ties but they have always supported me to do what made me happy.

I never had ambitions to go to university, especially as I’m dyslexic and thought I would struggle. However, as I approached the end of college, I knew it was the right decision as it would open so many more doors for me and I am now in my second year studying a ‘BSc (Hons) Agriculture’ at Hartpury University. From working in industry during my time at college I found that I have a real interest in innovation and sustainability within farming. This is one of the reasons I chose Hartpury as they pride themselves on bringing graduates into the industry with fresh ideas and a wealth of knowledge, as well as the new facilities which aid students’ studies.

I’m still not 100% sure what I want to do when I leave university as there are so many opportunities within the agriculture sector. However, my lecturers are incredibly supportive, and their guidance, contacts and ideas are invaluable to me as I think about my next steps. They are willing to use their experience and knowledge to help you reach your goals.

If you asked me two years ago I would never have thought I would have enjoyed university as much as I have, nor done as well as I have! I’m excited about my final year and what my future career will bring.
