If you’re interested in joining a Sports Academy, we’re running training sessions during Welcome Week using our various sports facilities on and off site. To avoid timetable clashes, no subject-specific induction activities will be conducted during these times.

Kit and equipment
- Overalls – to aid biosecurity on the farm and during visits, please ensure that you are always able to wear clean overalls. Therefore, I would recommend that you have two pairs. These do not need to be Hartpury branded, unless you wish to purchase those from the online shop.

Kit and equipment
Clothing;
- We would advise that you wear clothes that you are comfortable in and that will not damage if they get a little wet.
- Generally, our students wear leggings or thin trousers along with a t-shirt or polo. You may wish to bring a change of clothes as a backup.
- As we are a working business and see a large number of external clients, we do request that clothing is relatively smart in appearance. We like to present a professional impression to clients and visitors to the campus.
- We will provide you with a pair of waterproof waders for any showering or wet work, so you do not need to bring a wetsuit or other waterproofs with you.
- Please be aware that the flooring, whilst anti-slip, can become a little slippery underfoot if it is wet, so please ensure that you are in sensible footwear for your time with us.

- We would advise students to bring a drink, and also a packed lunch with them if they are working over lunchtimes. We ask that lunch breaks are taken out of clinic.

Kit and equipment
There is no need to buy any specialist clothing, but you may wish to buy some branded Hartpury clothing from our online shop.
You will need a laptop for use in class and to undertake your desk-based research and to write up your assignments. It would be useful for you to have Microsoft Office installed, however, as a Hartpury student you are eligible to use Office 365 free of charge, so if you do not have that software installed, this can be done when you arrive. If you do not have a laptop the library has a number of laptops that you can borrow, although access to these is dependent upon availability.

Kit and equipment
As part of a professional programme students are required to be in Hartpury University practical kit for all academic sessions, clinical and placement opportunities. Wearing the correct kit is a condition of enrolment and supports both the professional identity and expectations of the programme.
Please purchase your required kit from the Hartpury online store. The required items include:
- Hartpury branded red polo shirt
- Black tracksuit bottoms (can be Hartpury branded, but not essential)
- Hartpury waterproof jacket
- Sports trainers
- Loose fitting shorts
- Sports bra/bikini whichever is most comfortable

Fitness to practice
Before Welcome Week, you are required to complete the following Pre-Enrolment Fitness to Practice questionnaire.
Please complete this form honestly and submit this promptly. For queries, please contact admissions directly.
DBS
During your Welcome Week, we'll ask all students to complete their DBS checks. This is due to the nature of the programme and the potential to work with under 18’s or vulnerable adults.
Therefore, please ensure you bring with you 3 forms of ID. Commonly these are made up of the below for UK nationals:
- Current passport or birth certificate
- Driving Licence
- Bank statement or utility bill within the last 3 months, excluding phone bills.

Additional costs
You'll find the kit list for this course above. Final year students are required to complete an external placement. As this is off campus, there may be implicated travel costs associated with this. If you opt for the optional integrated placement year between years 2 and 3, this will incur additional costs.
Pre-arrival activities
It's really useful to get started with some preparation beforehand to assist your learning. The pre-reading recommendations include having awareness of anatomical terminology e.g. movements, direction and positions, bony landmarks terms, structure and types of joints, goal setting SMARTER principle, types of fitness training, structure and function of physiological systems, physiology terminology, types of muscle contraction, SALTAPS, the healing process.
There will be online activities related to this within your Welcome Week.
It's also useful to start to observe people walking. What does their posture look like? Are they equal on both sides? What is their stride length like? This will form part of discussions later on in the semester.

You’ll be given further instructions about ordering your veterinary nursing uniform during Welcome Week.
- Veterinary nurse uniform - to include a black tunic with Hartpury University branding and black scrub trousers. These will be required for practical sessions throughout your time at Hartpury University and for your veterinary practice-based learning in year two. Your uniform will be available to purchase during enrolment week.
- A scientific calculator for use during teaching sessions and in examinations
- Optional Laboratory Coat - this does not need to be branded and is only required for students who plan to volunteer in the animal house.
- Optional Riding hat, gloves and yard boots – only required for students who plan to volunteer on the equine yard or the equine therapy centre. They do not need to be Hartpury branded.

Kit and equipment
We would advise that you wear clothes that you are comfortable in and that will not damage when working with animals. As we will be working within functioning business’s and see a large number of external clients, we do request that clothing is relatively smart in appearance. We like to present a professional impression to clients and visitors to the campus.
- Yard safe boots (e.g. Wellingtons, jodhpur boots, work boots or riding boots)
- Warm coat with no hood/hood that can be secured away – dark in colour
- British Standard approved hat BHS approved list for 2025.
- Yard/riding gloves
- A black (or dark coloured) overcoat - laboratory style for animal unit practical’s (see Hartpury online shop)
- A set out overalls- boiler suit style for farm-based practical’s or waterproof trousers
- A scientific calculator, pens and pencils, paper and folders to stay organised
- A laptop is recommended to support activities in taught sessions, completion of assessments, and independent study.
If you wish to ride as part of the Equestrian Club:
- Beige/dark coloured breeches/jodhpurs
- Long (leather or rubber) riding boots or short boots with leather gaiters (no suede chaps).
- While your kit doesn’t need to be Hartpury-branded, you might like to buy your kit from our website (Veterinary Physiotherapy).
