Top-up your existing qualifications to a full BSc degree in one year. Top-up courses are equivalent to the final year of an undergraduate degree and allow you to 'top-up' an existing qualification into a full honours degree.

Course information

Designed for students progressing from a foundation degree or equivalent, this one-year programme enables you to refine your specialise skills and graduate with a full honour's qualification. You’ll study within a performance-focused environment that blends evolving theory with real-world application, preparing you to thrive in the fast-paced professional sports performance industry.

You’ll learn from experienced practitioners who bring current industry insight directly into your teaching and benefit from our strong professional networks, gaining exposure to contemporary challenges in performance sport such as athlete development, performance enhancement, and professional practice. 

We have a career-focused curriculum, designed to provide you opportunities to specialise in specific performance areas such as performance nutrition, performance analysis and development of athletes. You’ll also conduct your own research project in an area of personal interest, strengthening your evidence-informed approach and developing the professional skills valued by employers.

  • Direct entry into Level 6 can be subject to interview and approval of prior content covered 
  • Previous learning towards a university-level qualification or relevant work experience may count as credit for this course. Specific work experience within a sports performance environment of up to 140 hours (or equivalent) would be desirable but will be managed on a case-by-case basis.

This module provides students with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical application to provide strength and conditioning provision to the youth population for both sporting and health purposes.  

Performance Analysis in Practice  

Students apply and evaluate the impact of performance analysis techniques within the coaching cycle. 

Performance Nutrition 

This module will provide students the opportunity to explore nutrition concepts and topics related to performance in elite sport. 

Sport and Social Media 

This module allows students to explore the growing influence of social media within the sports industry. Students will also analyse social media content and consider their findings within the context of relevant contemporary research. 

Sport Sponsorship and Brand Development 

This module allows students to explore the role and significance of sponsorship within the sports industry. They will have the opportunity to align theory with practice by developing a new sponsorship proposal for a chosen sports property.

You’ll be assessed through a mixture of written exams, practical exams, written assignments and presentations. Many of the modules will be marked based on a mixture of assessment types, whilst others will be based solely on one type of assessment. Feedback will be given using a mixture of verbal and written comments; these will be offered to help you achieve your goals as a student on this programme.  In support of this, your personal tutor will be available to help you build upon feedback and develop skills that are necessary for a sports graduate.

This programme is taught over two semesters, normally consisting of 12 weeks of scheduled teaching and then assessment weeks, with an overview below:

  • Scheduled teaching takes place between 8:30 to 20:30 Monday to Friday
  • Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities
  • Work placements may entail different days and hours
  • Part-time students may need to attend learning activities five days each week, depending on modules selected
  • Timetables are available during enrolment week

In the final year of the degree, students are expected to source an external placement that meets the accredited criteria. This may have additional travel costs.

Hartpury University may host various extra-curricular activities and courses, prices may vary dependent on the nature and duration of the course and external provider, but these are not compulsory.

Work placements can require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, paid for by the student or placement provider.
