What I do
I have my own business, creating and selling high-end bespoke leather goods, after beating hundreds of applicants to the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship (QEST). I had to attend an interview at Buckingham Palace after being shortlisted and then presented my case in front of a big group of trustees. I’ve used the money towards classes to further improve my craftsmanship after learning my trade at Colne Saddlery.
How Hartpury University helped to get me there
I carried out my work placement at Colne Saddlery and I used my experience there as a basis for my third year dissertation, which focused on updating a business. After completing my degree, I was offered a full-time position with them. Working at the saddlers drew a lot more on the equine knowledge I had gained from that side of my course at Hartpury University. Having now started up my own business, everything I studied on the business management side has come flooding back. Without the course and everything that I learnt during my time at Hartpury University, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
