Work Placement at the International Centre for Birds of Prey

Karen's Hartpury Experience

"I went to the International Centre for Birds of Prey for my work placement. I’d never worked with birds before and the whole experience was great. I got to fly the birds, feed them on my fist and put them away at the end of the day. Even though it was hard work in the mornings; cleaning out the aviaries, washing and doing baths and food trays, by the afternoon, you get the rewarding job of the bird handling."

Developing Industry Connections

"On my work placement, I fell in love with working with birds. Before I thought I’d get a job with dogs or work in a zoo. Being involved with the centre and the experience days they do gave me a better idea of some of the jobs out there. I’d now like to do some LANTRA courses and get into falconry."
