As well as working as a barn mentor and in the Equine Therapy Centre at Hartpury, Steven has been lucky enough to get the opportunity to work on Great Britain Olympic dressage rider Carl Hester’s yard while studying for my degree. And it’s all thanks to the contacts that Hartpury has!
Steven's Hartpury Experience
"Ever since I discovered Hartpury at a Further Education fair back home in the Isle of Man, it became my number one choice in pursuing my degree in Equestrian Sports Science. Originating from such a small Island, it was important for me to move to the ‘mainland’ to achieve my dreams of successfully working within the equine industry; I feel that Hartpury has been instrumental in me doing so. Hartpury Equine’s fantastic facilities really stand out for me. Having my own horse here on livery has allowed me to take advantage of everything Hartpury has to offer and the regular shows have allowed me to compete, despite not having my own transport. This has improved our partnership no end. The knowledgeable team of equine staff and lecturers are extremely supportive and provide excellent opportunities to get involved in a variety of activities on both an educational and recreational basis."
Developing Industry Connections
"Utilising the fantastic networking opportunities that Hartpury has to offer has been invaluable for me. A special thanks must go to Fizz Marshall, manager at Hartpury’s own Equine Therapy Centre. Fizz has been extremely supportive of me over my time here at Hartpury and, without her help, I would never have been given such a fantastic opportunity! The Therapy Centre has not only boosted my equine therapy and rehabilitation knowledge, but opened my eyes to successful yard management and the importance of implementing ground schooling techniques into a horse’s regime to improve ridden work."
