You don’t have to study Equine to ride at Hartpury. There are plenty of opportunities on campus for our students to experience the joy of horse riding.
We have over 60 loan horses at Hartpury in addition to extensive DIY livery facilities if you decide to bring your own horse. You don’t need to own your own horse to be able to ride at Hartpury. You may also be able to take advantage of riding opportunities and social events available through our Equestrian Club.
Our Equestrian Club is a student-run committee designed to bring together like-minded friends and horse lovers outside of classroom lectures. We’re also home to several student societies and committees under our Equestrian Club umbrella. These include our Vaulting Society and Polo & Polocrosse Committee alongside the most common equine disciplines including dressage and show jumping.
Riding for competition
If you’re looking to develop as an equestrian athlete, you might be eligible to join our Equine Academy. Through the academy, you’ll have access to world-class coaches, specialist training support and some of the best rider performance facilities, including our Racewood Eventing Simulator, the most advanced in an education setting. Equestrian Club members may also have the opportunity to compete on Hartpury horses in organised competitions.
Riding at Hartpury is subject to an assessment. If you're not already at the required level, don't worry. We've teamed up with a local riding school to provide subsidised lessons and help you achieve the necessary skill level.
