After taking a gap year, Alice chose to study Agriculture at university to widen her knowledge of farming and learn more before going into the industry full time. Hartpury was immediately her first choice as it was close to home, yet far away enough to live independently. 

Following a successful career as freelance tree surgeon running his own business, Edward reached a point where he couldn’t see any more personal progression and wanted a new challenge. Edward felt like university, and agriculture, was calling him. He had gained a lot of industry experience and his next goal was to gain the academic qualification and expertise to progress his career further.

Emily is involved with lots of clubs through the Students’ Union, including the Animal, Food for Thought and the Green Leaders societies, as well as being a student mentor. She has been a Student Ambassador for most of her time at University, which has really opened up life at Hartpury.

Growing up in rural Suffolk, Tilly was always exposed to the farming community and had a passion for animals, but, she fell into the agriculture sector. Neither of her parents have agricultural ties but they have always supported her to do what made her happy.

Rosie has grown up in the agricultural industry, living in a village in rural Lincolnshire. Her dad manages a turkey hatchery back in Lincolnshire, which led her into the poultry industry. She is also the chairman of her local Young Farmers club, with roles at county, area and national level too.

Developments in Crop Production is Emily's favourite module. "It’s amazing to learn about all the technology coming into the industry and focus not only on the challenges agriculture faces, but the opportunities for more sustainable farming that are coming."

Wonga grew up in Johannesburg where he spent his weekends playing sports and meeting up with friends. For him, ‘home’ was his grandmother’s house where he and his siblings would meet up with the rest of his family on holiday. It was during this time that he had exposure to Agriculture as his gran's house is on a farm in the rural areas.

Joe chose Agriculture as it has the best blend of hands-on and classroom-based studies and allowed him to develop my academic skill while also teaching him practical skills to use on Home Farm.  He chose Hartpury as it such a green open campus, and offered the atmosphere of a large university but still gave him a personal feel. 

Alongside his academic studies at Hartpury University, Alex is employed as a stable assistant for dual-purpose trainer David Dennis in Worcestershire. The opportunity to work for Mr Dennis wouldn’t have come about if he hadn’t been studying at Hartpury.

Martyna, from Spain, has wanted to come to Hartpury since she was 13 years old, because it was a way to turn her passion for horses into a career. Her favourite thing about the university is that reality beats the pictures and for her, it is a dream come true.

This degree combines Emily's lifelong passion for horses with the business world, which is the industry she want to go into in the future. There is a mix of equine science and business modules, which means there are lots of practical sessions even though it’s a business degree.

James was doing a Level 3 Equine Management course at a local equine college in Kent, and was keen to get out into industry after he finished to work towards his BHS stages alongside working as a groom. While this traditional approach was working, he felt like he needed something extra. That is when he was recommended Hartpury, and he's very glad he took the opportunity!
